The Quest for a Wine Glass Near Keuka Lake

A few months ago, JT broke one of his favorite wineglasses. I’m not sure why it was one of his favorites; maybe it has a memory attached to it? But he’s been obsessed with replacing it ever since. So, we headed off to Penn Yan. But first, we needed to take a minor detour. As a matter of fact, our first destination could be a short day trip in itself.

Marilla Country Store – Marilla, NY

Marilla Country Store

Wanting to break up the drive a bit (see how I did that? Break?), we first landed at the Marilla Country Store. If you have not been to this store, or if you haven’t been there in a while, it is a MUST for your bucket list. The building is adorable and each room you enter has something new to explore. Seriously, if you’re looking to impress a shopper… go here!

Truffles – Marilla Country Store

The store has home decorating ideas, locally made items, gift ideas for all ages, spices and jams and truffles! Wear comfy shoes; you will be in there for a bit. Relax and enjoy! Also, if you are not a shopper, there are benches outside to sit on and chat with other non-shoppers. But honestly, there is something inside for everyone. They even have a room of historical pieces if you enjoy mini-museums.

Having enjoyed the side-trip to Marilla, we headed out to our destination, Penn Yan. JT was getting excited, but we needed to check out the area first. Our first stop was Lyonsmith Brewing Company.

A flight at Lyonsmith Brewing

We thoroughly enjoyed our stop at Lyonsmith Brewing Co. The owners were a plethora of information and are very proud of this family establishment that focuses on English style beers. They have a fun booklet of information about each of their products and their love and passion for what they do breaks through. (Yep, did it again!) Get the flight! Enjoy all they have to offer!

While there, grab a board game with friends or enjoy the large space and craftsmanship. You may even get talked into supporting a very young entrepreneur who has already learned the importance of budgeting and donating!

Rooster Hill Vineyards – Penn Yan, NY

Rooster Hill Tasting Room
The Prize!

We finally arrived at JT’s main destination. Rooster Hill Vineyards has a lovely and welcoming tasting room and view of the beautiful Keuka Lake. The sun was down once we settled in, but the inside was very cozy and the staff were very fun. They were willing to chat and gave us recommendations for other places in the area, including our next stop. Established in 2002, this family-owned winery always makes Dra very happy. Their dry, red wines are delicious! This is a must-visit for us any time we are in the area. And yes, JT got a new glass!

Silverbird Woodfired – Penn Yan, NY

Portabella Mushroom Appetizer- Silverbird Woodfired
Brazilian Macaw Cauliflower Crust Pizza – Silverbird Woodfired

All of this traveling made for two hungry folks! Upon recommendation from both Lyonsmith and Rooster Hill, JT finally got his wings! Silverbird Woodfired’s food is delicious and Dra was happy to find several gluten-free items. Silverbird has a bar and a large dining area and the staff were wonderful! You should stop on by!
