The Pilafs will admit they’ve really only utilized the kayak launch and the picnic area near it at Beaver Island. So our most recent visit was a pleasant surprise. There are trails all over! Who knew?

We first headed to the area we are familiar with and saw many people fishing and canoeing near the marina. We also noticed several dogs and their owners enjoying the picnic space. You can reserve shelters for picnicking by calling or going online.

Near the kayak launch you will see a bridge that crosses over two bodies of water. Cross it to find the birds and the hiking trail in the woods.
Dra got a great shot of the many colors hidden on the common starling and was excited to see a red-winged blackbird as well. There were many birds to see, and JT got to log a few new sightings in his app. Later, we discovered an osprey nest, herons, swans and other waterfowl on the other side of the lake.

Near the bird area is a hiking trail through the woods. It’s an easy yet beautiful walk. You can either return on the same trail or head out toward the water and walk on the pavement.

Next, we headed over to the beach. We hiked the sand area one way and the walkway on the return trip. Way down at the end of the trail is a very peaceful place to stop and enjoy the beauty around you.

If you need to use a stroller, there are paved pathways throughout the park, and there are restrooms as well.
While there, we saw both bikers and boaters excited to take advantage of the warmer spring weather. We also saw quite a few golfers and freebie golfers enjoying the courses.

We were so glad to spend several hours outdoors while so close to home.
Check it out! You’ll be glad you did!
