The Pilafs started to hike in the rain at Tifft Nature Preserve and were glad the sun eventually took over. The wildlife was out in full force and there were families, friends, photographers and bird watchers having a great time.

Tifft is just south of the city of Buffalo, across from the Buffalo Harbor. It has over 260 acres of land and provides year-round educational programming, outdoor recreation and environmental conservation. It is operated by the Buffalo Museum of Science.

We saw some animals that were too quick for us to capture a decent photo. The muskrats and deer were just too fast today! But, we did get some fun photos of turtles sunbathing, many birds (even ones that landed on a passerby’s hand), and families of geese. The babies were so fuzzy and cute!

Just outside the educational center, a ranger had a display of many things kids (and adults!) could touch and learn about. He was informative and kind. We also saw a group of young girls getting a lesson and tour on the grounds.
The trails were also being cared for by rangers/security throughout the day. Not only were they keeping an eye on the area and those visiting, they were also very informative.

The many trails are marked and they offer a map for those who want to be sure they stay on the path. They have a boardwalk trail, some grassy trails and a few dirt (sometimes mud!) trails. Do not wear your favorite shoes!
Tifft has designated areas for fishing, several observation areas, and a few viewing blinds for those who want to photograph nature without disturbing them.

Tifft asks that you do not feed the wildlife, pick the flowers, or bring your pets to the area. The preserve wants its animals to remain safe at all times. The park is free and open from dawn to dusk each day.
If you are visiting near dusk, check out the area created for the bats. It is pretty fun! If bats aren’t your thing, there are may different species of birds living and visiting Tifft. Dawn to dusk, you will be pleased with this beautiful and educational space.

Enjoy the outdoors. Support local!
