A month or so ago a friend of ours told us we MUST get tickets to see the traveling immersive experience Beyond Van Gogh… so we did (cuz she’s really smart!) What an experience!
The show is in a large building near the Eastern Hills Mall- you can’t miss it! (Make sure you hit up the restrooms at the mall prior to your visit. There are none at the exhibit.) Don’t forget your mask – they are required.
Using letters Vincent Van Gogh had written to his brother, the first room is filled with quotes and information about the artist. Take your time in this room to enter his mind and note his unique creativity. Don’t rush through this section; it is informative, insightful and creative.
The second (and last) room is where you become part of the exhibit itself. The walls are constantly changing and moving and the floors join in as well. The music in the background gives a feeling of peace and Dra truly stated that she felt like dancing (with JT – who was like… no way! People are watching! See what he did there? There were self-portraits everywhere. )
Using Van Gogh’s pieces, the creative tech team surrounds you with visuals that are lovely and bring a sense of contentment. They included many recognizable pieces and portraits and well as additional quotes from Van Gogh.
For those looking to continue the experience, both Black Willow Winery and Ellicottville Brewing Company made limited additions for this show. Seems like a great way to impress your date!
Plan for an hour to enjoy the entire show. Wear comfy shoes since you will probably be standing the entire time. There were only a few benches. Photos allowed but no flash.
