Who hates Valentine’s Day? It’s OK; you’re allowed to fear the pressure of doing the right thing, or fear the expectation of having to come up with a memorable date. You’re also allowed to feel let down if someone, anyone, doesn’t give you the attention you desire. I have often thought it’s not fair for the calendar to decide when and where I give my love and attention, whether it be to my spouse, a best friend, or someone I adore in my family. Why should February dictate my actions?! Well, I’m not going to let it! You can enjoy a night of romance at any time, and here is a simple, yet perfect night of romance, compliments of the Pilafs. Show a little love to a date, a friend, your mom, your neighbors, or yourself! We all need a little love.

Dash’s Market – Hertel Avenue
Yes! You read this correctly! Your first stop on the “love others; love yourself” tour is Dash’s Market. Dash’s carries boxes of Platter’s Chocolates. Platter’s is local and makes all sorts of delicious candies. In order to enhance your experience later, buy a box of PLAIN milk chocolate or PLAIN dark chocolate. Both are yummy and will do the trick!

Next, grab a bagful of canned goods or boxed food. Either on your date, or sometime in the near future, head less than a mile down the road to Parkside Lutheran Church, 2 Wallace Avenue. They have a community food pantry set up outside the building for those who may need some extra love. https://parksidelutheran.org
North Park Florist
Now that you have your chocolates, head to North Park Florist. Let’s be honest here, there are some folks who feel they must include a giant bouquet of flowers, but this is a simple night of romance, right? So, go inside and pick one – one beautiful flower. She deserves it. He deserves it. They deserve it. You deserve it. A small token of thoughtfulness. The website says they are open Monday-Saturday 9am-2pm, but as always, check for changes. https://northparkflorist.com, 716.838.1123
Bon Fire Crafts

If you are up for buying a gift, head to Bon Fire Crafts. Metalsmith and owner, Emily, is usually sitting right there creating beautiful and delicate jewelry as you shop. She is so talented and her pieces are amazing! This shop supports local artists and is worth the visit. The website says they are open Wednesday-Sunday 11am-6pm, but as always, check for changes. https://bonfirecraft.com 716.424.0229
Now that you have your candy, the flower and a handmade gift, head down the street and enjoy the perfect ambiance for your evening out. Everyone should experience this Hertel jewel.
Wine on Hertel

Wine on Hertel is the place to go for intimate conversations and a peaceful evening. Owner Justin has an eye for details and his place is a class act. Candles, low-lighting, music, hand-crafted bar and accessories, and delicious food compliment his choices of wine he serves from around the world.

Justin is knowledgeable, friendly and very attentive to each customer. This is not a restaurant, but rather a wine bar with a splash of elegance. Each appetizer is a work of art; don’t be afraid to try them all.

You can sit at the bar or at one of the several handcrafted tables that are set apart for privacy. This is where you bring out your chocolates! They are a perfect added touch provided by a thoughtful date for a wine tasting. (See… we’re making you look good! Get the chocolates out of the car!)

If you like dry, red wines with dark chocolate, Dra recommends the DiMartino from Chili and JT is a fan of the Super Tuscan. Wine on Hertel, 1370 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo, NY, 716.424.2002 https://wineonhertel.com
Have a wonderful night out & thank you for supporting local!
