Ah, the plans of Rice and wrens. The Pilafs planned on spending the day in West Seneca, and although we started there, we got distracted by some friends (Yay! Friends!). We completed goal #1, but finished the night 9 miles down the road in Lancaster. Sometimes spontaneity rocks!

Mill Road Park

Continuing JT’s need to add to his list of bird sightings, the Pilafs headed over to Mill Road Park in West Seneca. Even in the winter, this park is beautiful, woodsy and filled with nature. Pay attention to the footprints In the snow. There are so many animals enjoying this sanctuary. It truly is amazing how tall the trees are and the hike in the area is lovely. We got to see many pooches, pups and families enjoying the trails and one family of little ones was sledding on the small inclines.

Although we were hoping to spot an owl, we were pretty excited to find a hawk and a red bellied woodpecker. Before you become impressed with our bird knowledge, note that we take photos and go home and look them up later. We really just enjoy the time outside.

Our plans for this area originally included visiting the Rusty Nickel Brewing Company Rustynickelbrewing.com and the Ebenezer Ale House Ebenezeralehouse.com, but friends called and friends come first. We will write up these two great places at another date. They are, however, in West Seneca very close to the park if you’d like to stay in the area.

The Yelling Goat
From the park, we headed 9 miles down the road to the Yelling Goat www.yellinggoat.com in Lancaster. Our friends made reservations, which we would highly recommend, and we enjoyed dining in the bar area.

What a great place! The menu offers many options and it has several gluten free offerings.

All four of our meals were excellent and the bar menu was fantastic. The place is warm and inviting and the service was wonderful. Kaylee gets a homerun. She was friendly, helpful and working her tail off!
Yelling Goat is known for it’s unique pizza offerings and many craft beer selections. They also have a very fun list of spirits.
We loved seeing everyone having such a good time!
